B&B-AGEMA at Realize LIVE Europe 2026: Innovative Turbine Simulation
The energy transition demands maximum flexibility from steam turbines. Especially concentrated solar power (CSP) plants suffer from extreme thermal fluctuations and frequent load cycles.
At Realize LIVE Europe 2026 (June 29 – July 1 in Amsterdam), B&B-AGEMA GmbH will present an innovative simulation approach to master these design challenges. Our presentation, “Thermo-mechanical whole engine-model co-simulation of a concentrated solar power steam turbine” (Tuesday, June 30, 2:00 PM – 2:45 PM, Room D202), shows a testcase for own-designed a 30 MW high-pressure turbine module. This work was conducted in cooperation with Siemens DISW and Maya HTT. By implementing a whole engine model in Simcenter 3D and coupling it with a 1D fluid flow network in Simcenter Flomaster via the Functional Mock-Up Interface (FMI), it was possible to map complex thermo-mechanical interactions—such as those occurring in labyrinth seals."
Technical Highlights:
- Holistic Simulation: Thermo-mechanical multi-domain simulations for highly flexible turbine applications.
- Efficient Design: Significantly accelerated structural design using the whole engine-model approach in Simcenter 3D.
- Automated Co-Simulation: Direct integration with Simcenter Flomaster (via FMI) for bi-directional data exchange during transient operation.
